Our bodies are unique and so should our yoga be

What I love most about teaching yoga is being able to empower others to make a real difference to their health and wellbeing.

My personal aim is to encourage people that would not consider attending a yoga class in a gym but would feel comfortable practicing with me in my private studio.  This is a small, personal space in my garden, and I align my teaching with your abilities.

Yoga is about you, not about comparing yourself to anyone else or attaining a particular alignment if you are not built that way.

Classes are very small and have a relaxed, friendly atmosphere usually with a degree of humour.

Yoga is not only about improving your physical wellbeing but about developing your ability for inner strength and stillness.

My intention is to provide an all-encompassing, enjoyable space from which you may experience many benefits.

I have had so much success over the years in bringing the gift of yoga to people of all ages and abilities

Everyone Welcome!

SATYA SOMATIC YOGA

This is a very gentle but effective form of yoga.  Our movements are done lying on the floor in a flowing fashion without force.  It is not weight bearing and involves sliding, gliding, rocking and circular movements to balance the body's structure, reduce tension and fatigue and boost immunity.   Our modern lives are very demanding and SATYA is a very nourishing practice.

SUITABLE FOR ALL AGES AND ABILITIES AND THOSE WITH HEALTH ISSUES.

Please contact me if you wish to discuss

My dynamic yoga is a blend of hatha and vinyasa flow weaving in a mix of different aspects of yoga.  We may concentrate on working certain areas of the body, alignment of our yoga poses, building stability, breathwork, inner stillness and relaxation.  You never know quite what to expect in my classes but one thing you can be sure of is it will be enjoyable!  Classes are small and welcoming and suitable for all.  I always offer modifications as well as a challenge for more advanced students.

DYNAMIC YOGA

YIN YOGA

Yin yoga allows us to work at a much deeper level within our ligaments and joints.  We settle into a pose with the help of props and stay here while our body yields gently.  Release is slow and nourishing resulting in a flush of fresh oxygen and blood rejuvenating tired and stressed joints and can enable greater mobility and healing.  Personally, after yin I feel energised and get lots of things done and that always feels great!

RESTORATIVE YOGA

Restorative yoga is deeply relaxing and nourishing.  It works in a passive, not active manner and is about opening rather than stretching.  It is done on the floor again, using props to assist us to get comfortable, allowing your body to fully yield in a way we cant do in our normal lives, not even when sleeping.  Most of us do not take time to relax our muscles, bones and joints, we just work them until one day they let us know we are doing too much!

YOGA NIDRA

This delicious practice  will encourage you to experience profound relaxation.  Even when we are asleep our body has a degree of tension involving dreams and movement.  Initially we get very comfortable on the floor using props and blankets.  You will then be led on a journey of awareness around your physical body, emotions and senses.  Often referred to as 'yogic sleep' yoga nidra will help you to experience a deep sense of well-being through complete relaxation.

About me

Let’s start with the present, I have retired from the 'day job' I am making time for self-care and the many things I really enjoy in my life such as gardening, art, my own yoga practice!  (which I never had time for!) meditation and stillness, reading, walking and travelling.  We have a van in which we go on adventures regularly, so you will find my class timetables are in blocks to work around our trips!

My yoga journey along with other training and personal development that I have done has been a long one in which I have grown and expanded my knowledge and understanding with every challenge I have taken on.  The latest one of 'retirement' is proving to be rich indeed and I am embracing my new life and opportunities!

Now, let’s go back to the beginning of this story. I was a founder member of a stonemasonry company formed in 1981.   This is now the very successful and respected masonry firm called Boden and Ward Stonemasons Ltd based in Flore.  I have recently retired after 41 years and am very proud to have been a key part in the running and development of this award-winning company.

I first turned to yoga when I was experiencing a particularly challenging time in my personal life. Yoga along with regular swimming helped me deal with this situation not only while I was in it, but it also gave me the inner strength to find my way out. At the time I was working full time and raising a young family, and it was then that I realised just how much my yoga practice had enabled me to change my life. I have studied multiple courses during my career, not just Yoga teacher training, but other holistic therapies and personal development. Like everyone, I have had some difficult times but I have grown from the experience. In 1997 I trained at the Tisserand Institute in London and qualified as a Holistic Aromatherapist. I have used essential oils for many years now and still offer this therapy. The thirst to learn and develop my skills had taken hold of me and I then trained as a Reflexologist with Priscilla Kennedy Davies in 1999. Another fascinating study that I thoroughly enjoyed. Our feet hold a wealth of information about us and our bodies can be very responsive to a gentle touch. My first yoga teacher training was in 2010/12 with Yoga Rhythm. I broadened my knowledge of various other yoga practices by attending regular classes with some of our amazing yoga teachers we have in Northampton! I then studied Restorative Yoga in 2018 with Beverely Nolan achieving my level I and II. My Yin training was with Sarah Lo and I attained levels I, II, III and IV between 2017/2023 with a 220 hour certificate for Yoga Alliance. To add to this, I began to study SATYA yoga with Tias Little. Level I was done in person but then covid conveniently provided the vessel for extensive online teacher training with Tias is who lives in Santa Fe. I took full advantage of this opportunity and after completing my levels II and III successfully I am now very proud to be able to teach this beautifully effective and gentle type of yoga to all ages and abilities. I have also attended further training with Tias on topics such as trauma, chakras, our organ body, nidra and advanced SATYA. For more information on each type of yoga I teach please see "My Types of Yoga" further up this page. In 2021 I attended a 10-week introduction to counselling and psychotherapy course run by the University of Warwick in which I learned the theories behind cognitive behavioural therapy, person centred therapy and the theories of Freud. I enjoyed this course so much along with the personal enquiry it involved that I actually considered for one mad moment taking the full 4-year degree course, but sense and reason prevailed and as I was still working full time, I decided to concentrate on my yoga teaching. So that leads us to FORGET ME NOT YOGA - why this name?! This took a while to come to me as I wanted something unique to match my teaching! Not only is it one of my favourite flowers, I love the delicate colours but they bring such joy to my day and bees love them! Did you know that forget me nots can give bees a signal that their nectar has been taken by turning the inner flower colour from yellow to white so the bees can buzz on by? The flower also represents true love which goes without saying is my relationship with yoga! I think most of my students will agree, the name describes my particular style of teaching and once you have attended my classes, you will not forget me!

Testimonials

Alex is a truly wonderful yoga teacher.  Her style is very supportive, gentle, wise and focused.  Her studio is lovely, wooden and peaceful set in her garden. â€‹I find myself "switching off" and forgetting any worries that I might bring to the class each week.  The gentle and beautiful SATYA yoga, practiced on the floor, puts no strain on the skeleton, muscles and ligaments and, being 81 years old, this discipline has helped maintain my flexibility and strength, as well as being very meditative.  SATYA means truth, of being truthful to oneself, and others, and I try and concentrate on this during my daily yoga stretching flows, which I love.  Alex has taken me on a journey, which is now a way of life, and is incredibly precious.  Each session is prepared with so much thought, and I am truly grateful to have her as my teacher.

I luckily found Alex about 6 years ago and have been attending her classes ever since. Alex takes so much time in preparing her classes, always taking into account any known niggles, stiffness or problems we have and she makes sure she can help and improve these issues with certain poses and exercises. There is always a theme to a class and you come home feeling calm, relaxed and joyful to have attended the session. Alex arranged a week's Yoga Retreat in Greece in 2023 to a beautiful venue away from any traffic noise or aeroplanes, overlooking an azure blue sea.  We had an amazing time there returning home fully rejuvenated. I am so happy I found Alex and I have felt cared for and welcomed to every class.
